The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion
This being my first post here on Watch Anish, I suppose I should introduce myself! My name is Otis Blank, I’m a photographer who has a passion for not just watches but cars as well. Anish was kind enough to ask me to be a part of this new website to provide some additional content for our lovely readers. Much of the posts that I will contribute will be automotive related but I’ll slip in a post about watches every now and again to keep things balanced. Without further ado, The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion!
Every year in August owners of the finest vintage race cars in the world flock to the Monterey Peninsula for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. There are hundreds of cars in attendance annually, from cars like the 1907 Renault you see below to the Ford GT40 you see above. The RMMR is never a dissapointment.
This year at RMMR they were celebrating 50 years of the Shelby Cobra. In addition to a tent dedicated entirely to historic Shelby cars the Shelby Cobra class had 40 original Cobra’s in it. Seeing those cars going around the track was quite a sight to behold.
There were many motorsport legends in attendance, one of which was the above Porsche 917. I don’t think it went around the track this year, but it was still a great pleasure to see a car with such history present at the event.
Not all the cars that go to the RMMR are race cars. This Aston Martin DB4 Zagato was being used simply as transportation around the paddock area. Interestingly it wasn’t even the only DB4 Zagato in attendance, the white car below was competing in the 1955-1962 GT Cars Class.
A favorite of Sterling Moss himself, this Maserati 250f stood out from the crowd in the pitlane.
The beautiful leather hood straps of the classic BMW 328.
I absolutely loved the look of this race-prepped Ferrari 250 SWB.
That about does it for my first post here on Watch Anish! I hope you all enjoyed it. If you’d like to see more of my photos from the RMMR please have a look at my personal website [CLICK!].
