Live – Romain Jerome x Mo Coppoletta: The Tattoo DNA ‘Sailor’s Grave’ watches
Something I find quite refreshing about Romain Jerome is that they don’t take themselves too seriously. Over the years the brand has produced some great collaboration (DNA) pieces, and while not all of them are to my taste at least it offers a fun and cool alternative to the majority of ‘conformist’ pieces we see in the wider mass market.

Mo Coppoletta is the founder of The Family Business tattoo parlor in London. If you don’t know, it’s basically one of the most famous tattoo destinations with a very long waiting list of eager people waiting to get inked by Mo and his team. Mo is also a very seasoned high end watch collector so the marriage of the edgy and alternative RJ brand with a contemporary skilled artist is pretty easy to put together.
Last week we were invited to the launch and unveiling of Mo Coppoletta and Romain Jerome’s latest collaboration. Part of the Tattoo DNA line, the model is called the ‘Sailor’s Grave’ and in total is limited to 100 pieces, split evenly between 4 variations and 2 strap options;
- All black case, black nylon strap, yellow lightning bolts on dial
- All black case, black nylon strap with red lightning bolts on dial
- Two tone black and steel case, tan/skin coloured leather strap with yellow lightning bolts on dial (each strap is individually hand tattooed by Mo Coppoletta)
- Two tone black and steel case, tan/skin coloured leather strap with red lightning bolts on dial (each strap is individually hand tattooed by Mo Coppoletta)
The case is very similar to the one used in the Titanic DNA line, with rusted features on the bezel and ‘X’ corners on the case. The dial is where the distinction takes place, with a quite dramatic image of a ‘Sailor’s Grave’ tattoo accented by a very large and prevalent anchor in the centre.
The watch has a very powerful and alternative look, and to be frank it’s going to divide opinion between classic watch enthusiasts and those that are open to something different and away from the guidelines that traditional collectors set. On seeing the renderings I was not 100% convinced but in person the watch is very much improved still and the various finishes especially in the dial play with the light in a way that brings it to life in a way that is both enticing and engaging.
Retail price is somewhere close to $18k and the watch is available as of now from Romain Jerome authorised retailers worldwide.
I hope you enjoyed our report on the watches and I’ll leave you with some further images from that evening…
