Fast & Furious & Coffee : Sung Kang’s FuguZ and Perrelet
It’s no secret that some of the ‘Fast & Furious’ cast are big car fans. We all remember and love the late Paul Walker. But apart from him there is another major role actor whose admiration for mechanics led him to build his own version of a historical car, and on top of that release a timepiece together with a luxury watch brand.
We are of course talking about Sung Kang, who played one of the most liked characters – Han. As a matter of fact while I’m typing this post only thing I can hear in my head is Tokyo Drift’s theme song by Teriyaki Boyz (man, that brings up memories!).
Sung Kang, as a true car fanatic, decided it’s too mainstream these days to just buy an expensive or a fast car. Instead he wanted to create something of his own. Without a doubt it should have been a nostalgic classic, so he chose a 1973 Datsun 240Z. If you’re a car guy this should’ve made you tick. One of the greatest things to come our of Japan’s car industry, Sung Kang has decided to build his project around it.
And so it began, as Sung found a stock version of the 240Z online he got the car and immediately stripped it down, leaving almost nothing apart from the body that was in a great condition. Then, with help of social media he managed to get that body kit he was looking for and could not find anywhere. The engine this classic used to have was a 2.5 little one generating 155 hp. Instead, Sung equipped it with a 1994 Skyline GTR’s 2.6 L naturally aspirated motor with 220 hp.
In the end, after lots of work and fine tuning the ‘FuguZ’ was born. Winning multiple awards at car shows and brining a lot of attention to the project it quickly became one of the most recognisable and unique cars on the streets of the US. However Sung Kang’s love for mechanics does not end with this car. Teaming up with Perrelet, a watch brand known primarily for their cool and fun approach to the dials and a turbine system on top of them, they’ve designed a watch together.
As a result they’ve come up with a pretty unique timepiece. Taking inspiration from the automotive world Perrelet has created a watch fit for the driver. Due to its offset dial numerals, the ’12’ would not any longer be on top of the dial, instead it’s located at the regular watch’s 1 o’clock. That really simplifies the process of checking time if your hand is on the steering wheel.
Perrelet and Sung have decided to officially release the timepiece at a Cars and Coffee gathering, where drivers share their experience and just talk about cars. Anyone can join in and get a chance to sit in some of the most iconic cars of our time.
