Chopard Introduces 3 Novelties in their new Mille Miglia GTS Collection
What comes to mind when I say ‘Mille Miglia’? If you’re into racing the answer would most definitely be ‘One of the most important and dangerous endurance open road races of all time, which had a distance of 1000 miles’. However if you’re more of a horology geek like myself you’d first think of Chopard’s truly iconic watch collection. Obviously inspiried by vintage racing it’s one of the most known collections in today’s watch industry. Launched back in 1988 it still stays true to its original design and purpose, even with the launch of Chopard’s Mille Miglia GTS now, 27 years later.
Speaking of the new collection – Chopard is releasing it just in time for ‘La Corsa Più Bella del Mondo’, much like the Mille Miglia GTS this is a rejuvenation of the historical race mentioned before, but now its purpose is more to keep the heritage alive rather than competition. All of the participants drive vintage cars dated 1927 to 1957, as an homage to the original Mille Miglia race. Now if we look at the new watches we’ll notice straight away the GTS collection has a sportier look, while also preserving all the things we know and love about the Mille Miglia – the rubber ‘tyre-like’ strap, the colour contrast on the dial, and those oversized numerals (6 and 12). There are 3 new models, together making a great collection: a simpler automatic, a power reserve (our favourite) and a chronograph.
The automatic and power reserve pieces both have 43 mm cases while the chrono is a little larger (44mm), but all three models sit great on the wrist, maybe due to the comfortable lug positioning. All three pieces have a water resistance of 100 meters, and movements from the Fleurier Ebauches workshops, all being COSC certified chronometers.
Of course one of the reasons why we are covering this topic is because we really like how the new collection turned out, but the other reason is that our team is actually going to take part in the upcoming vintage race with Chopard, in less than a week! So stay tuned for more updates as well as lots of photos coming soon to the website and social media.
