5 Watches of Halloween Killers
It’s pretty much Halloween time, and whether you are a collector seeking advice on a costume to go with your watch (and vice versa), or if you’re just looking to buy a horrifying timepiece, this article might give you some ideas.
We’ve decided to pick our top 5 all-time horror movie villains and the watches that would most definitely suit them.
1. Freddy Krueger
It doesn’t matter if you’re a 12 year old kid or his grandfather, pretty much anyone with a TV at home knows about him. The most terrifying nightmare I personally had back when I was at school.
Out of all the watches we could think of, this one fit best. Not just because of its vivid red strap and details, symbolising the blood of his victims and the fire he fears most, but also because Freddy needs to be ultra quick with his movements. The RM50-03 weighs just around 40 grams, this would hardly slow him down.
It’s also a split second chronograph. Very useful, while splitting up people in their dreams. And with only 75 pieces made and a price tag of 1’000’000 USD, chances are – you’re only going to see it in your dreams.
Don’t know about you, but I could never take this little guy seriously. After all, it’s a toy without any superpowers.
“As a doll, I’m f**king infamous! I’m one of the most notorious slashers in history! And I don’t wanna give that up. I am Chucky, the killer doll! And I dig it!”
Chucky admits he’s a doll, and that’s what makes him unique. He doesn’t care what anyone would think of him, and that’s why the orange AP ROO Diver Chronograph is an ideal watch for him. Just like Chucky, it looks like it could be a toy and not give a damn about it. Needless to say, it matches his hair.
Not the old Pennywise. The new one. The one that looks scary as f*ck. The one that puts the ‘phobia’ into coulrophobia.
Konstantin Chaykin’s ‘Clown’ watch is both fascinating mechanically and visually scary at the same time. And much like the IT monster that comes around once every 27 years, this Clown watch has a moon phase indicator… and a moon rotates on its axis every 27 days… (insert X-Files music) (insert illuminati symbols).
With the 8th film of the franchise coming out today we just had to include the OG Jigsaw doll, which apparently never said “You wanna play a game?”… Yeah. It actually just said “I want to play a game”. Crazy, right? Either way, Jigsaw is one of the biggest icons in horror, and he has pretty much started a sub-genre with all those crazy mind games and tortures he put the victims through.
We didn’t just choose the Devon Tread 1 because it looks like it could also be a torture machine. It is in itself a whole new sub-genre of watchmaking, blending electronic and mechanical worlds into one.
5. American Psycho
My personal favourite of our hateful 5 – Patrick Bateman is an all-American man, who doesn’t want to settle for anything less than the best. His public persona needs to constantly remind everyone around him how relevant and successful he is. He wears a two-tone Rolex datejust because it’s a recognisable symbol of wealth.
However if we start digging deeper, Patrick Bateman is just a mask. The real villain is the American Psycho that hides beneath it. The real Bateman doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, on the contrary he does whatever he wants to whomever he wants. He kills people. Not a certain type or someone he genuinely dislikes, but pretty much anyone, from a homeless man to his colleagues. This is why we chose the Urwerk UR-1001. It’s the absolute opposite of the basic Rolex Datejust, it’s the ultimate ‘F*CK YOU’ to anyone and everyone. And it’s pretty heavy, so Bateman could also use it as an ideal weapon.
